Citizenship Class

In the United States, the government gets its power to govern from the people. The United States has the government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Citizens in the United States shape their government and its policies, so they must learn about important public issues and get involved in their communities.

Learning about the American government helps you understand your right and responsibilities and allow you to fully participate in the American political process.
The purpose of the citizenship program is to help the refugee parent and youth with limited English to get their citizenship and also help them understand the principles of American democracy, the U.S system of government, and the important rights and responsibilities of U.S citizenship.

The Program also helps participants improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills.
VRIS received free citizenship test study materials from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The citizenship class is staffed by volunteers from colleges and community members. Free citizenship test study materials are provided to the students.

We also invite USCIS officials to our classes for a Naturalization & Citizenship Information Session about the naturalization process, the naturalization test, and the right and responsibilities of U.S. Citizenship.

The demand is high and we are recruiting volunteers for this Program.
